The Building Control Section of Newport City Council offers the following:
Fully qualified staff, who are experienced, proficient and who care about customer needs and quality in construction
A development team approach to all projects, with close working relationship with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Planning Development Control, Highways, Environmental Health, etc
Vast local knowledge of geographical and geological conditions and archived records of construction methods and layouts of
existing buildings
Provision of national Type and System Approval to developers 5. Annual “Built-in Quality” awards to building contractors who
have shown excellence and quality in construction
Same day inspection if requested before 10:00am
Out of hours inspections, where required
Early response and specialist advice on dangerous buildings, demolition of buildings, fire and life safety requirements, access for disabled, safety at sports grounds, etc.
Quick plan check and decision processes, with the majority of applications checked within 5 days
Stage and conditional approval for large and/or complex projects
Office and site inspection procedures which are organised within a Quality Management System accredited to BS EN ISO 9001:2000
Fully computerised, GIS based, application registration, plan check recording, consultation and site inspection recording system
Internet website and email addresses for Building Control
Preliminary discussions prior to the deposit of a formal application, with pre-application consultation, advice and guidance given, especially on complex major projects.
Issue of Completion Certificate on all projects to confirm that the construction work has been inspected and complies with the relevant legislation
Customer focused team, confirmed by customer satisfaction questionnaires
Mobile phone communication with all Building Control Surveyors to ensure speedy response
